Although in Australia, homosexual marriage had already been legalized, there is still a long way to go.

I have watched an American TV show called "Fresh Off the Boat". There is a character Nicole. She is beautiful and has a cool personality, so she is popular in school.

There's an episode where Nicole finds out she likes a girl, and then, she thought she might is a lesbian. But she didn't know how to tell her dad this thing.

She tried many times but failed due to no courage. Every time she gets nervous so she changed the talking topic quickly. She told to a boy Eddie (They are good friends, Nicole was Eddie’s crush).

Later some other people also knew that, with their help, she bravely told her dad, "I might a lesbian," Her father was shocked at first, but he loves his daughter, and he cooled down and accepted this thing gradually.

He also encouraged his daughter Nicole to express her feelings boldly and love bravely. He told his daughter that she had the right to choose who she liked and it was up to her.

When I watched the episode, I felt very warm and moving. What a liberal dad and warm-hearted friend! What do you think? If you are interested, I recommend you to see this TV show.

But not everyone is as lucky as Nicole. For some people, the struggle for full recognition continues.

Challenges to legalising homosexual marriage

木槌

  • The enactment of laws is complicated eg. Constitutional amendments

  • It includes different opinions in parties at the state and federal levels

  • Consider the overall mainstream social values in Australia

  • Public’s degree of acceptance eg. religious person

  • The legalization of marriage may be followed by the legalization of surrogacy

  • May cause ethical and moral problems

The current issues sexual minority facing

LGBTQ人群

  • Next generation’s problem

  • Children may be teased at school by their classmates

  • Sexual minorities’ fear of discrimination

  • It still needs more time to popularize the science and publicize the correct homosexuality

eg. Australian gay ad faces protests from one million moms

An advertisement for the dating website eHarmony has aired in Australia featuring a gay couple. The latest advert for eHarmony's "True Love is Here" campaign shows two men baking bread and hugging each other at home.

One Million Moms, an American Christian group founded by the American Family Association, launched a petition against this ad,

calling it "the site's attempt to normalize and glamorize the LGBTQ lifestyle by depicting a gay couple hugging, feeding, and wiping each other's mouths."

The concern is that children may have been watching TV when the ad aired.
